Ghana and South Sudan have signed a General Cooperation Agreement that provides for cooperation between the two countries in diverse areas including Trade, Education, Health, Agriculture, Mining and Technical Cooperation.
The agreement was signed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hanna Serwaah Tetteh (MP) and her South Sudanese counterpart, Barnaba Marial Benjamin Thursday, January 29, on the margins of the 24th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Ministers pledged to work towards a full implementation of the agreement on the basis of agreed priorities.
The South Sudanese Foreign Minister stated that his country is particularly interested in Education, Health and Mining, areas in which Ghana has considerable experience.

Hanna Tetteh welcomed the proposal and expressed Ghana’s readiness to share her experience with South Sudan.
She took the opportunity to brief her counterpart on the availability of universities, colleges of education, nurses training colleges, a University for Mines at Tarkwa and several others which were capable of offering the needed support to help South Sudan develop human resources in the selected sectors.
Present at the signing ceremony were Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Albert Yankey, who is concurrently accredited to South Sudan, the Director of the Africa Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Sena Siaw-Boateng and other officials.
