President John Evans Atta Mills has stated that Ghana will not encourage, tolerate or support any dissident activity by Ivorian refugees on its territory.
He said although Ghana wholeheartedly welcomed the refugees in line with UNHCR resolutions, the country would not allow any group or individuals to use Ghana as a launch pad to cause con- fusion in Cote d'Ivoire.
In a joint communique signed after the official visit of President Allassane Ouattara of Cote d'Ivoire to Ghana Thursday and read by the respective Foreign Affairs Ministers of the two countries in French and English, President Mills said, "We have made it clear to the refugees we will not tolerate any form of lawlessness and deviant behaviour in the country."
For his part, President Ouattara made a request for Ghana to consider the implementation of the mandate to freeze accounts of persons presumed to be guilty of criminal actions committed during the Ivorian post-election crises and also effect arrest warrants issued against them.
In view of the importance Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire attached to security matters, the two countries agreed that their national security agencies would meet in Abidjan as soon as practicable to address issues of mutual interest with a view to enhancing their security and stability.
On regional integration, the two countries acknowledged the challenges still confronting the effective realisation of the aspirations of member countries of ECOWAS in particular and the African Union (AU) in general and agreed to harness the collective efforts and resources towards accelerating the process of integration through intensified consultation and collaboration.
