President-elect John Mahama has stressed the unwavering demand of Ghanaians for effective leadership, stating that the resounding mandate he received in the 2024 elections is a clear rejection of poor governance.
Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, he said, “This mandate represents many things for all political actors and those who seek to lead our nation. It shows that the Ghanaian people have little tolerance for bad governance.”
He praised Ghanaians for their steadfast belief in democracy despite the challenges the country faces.
“By going out to vote for me, you demonstrated your belief in the possibility of change and your determination to hold leaders accountable,” he said.
Mr Mahama credited the victory to the collective efforts of the electorate, his campaign team, and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I extend my deepest gratitude to the Almighty God, my family, my running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, our party members, and the countless volunteers who worked tirelessly to secure this victory,” he remarked.
Highlighting the importance of the election’s outcome, Mahama warned leaders against arrogance and complacency.
“This mandate serves as a constant reminder of what fate awaits us if we fail to meet the aspirations of our people,” he noted.
The President-elect called for a renewed relationship between citizens and elected officials, emphasizing that public service is about representation and not self-interest.
“We must never forget that the people of Ghana have chosen us to represent their wishes and their best interests,” Mahama stated.
In his closing remarks, he urged all Ghanaians to embrace positivity and commit to rebuilding the nation.
“Let us continue to believe in the possibility of change. Our best days are not behind us; they are ahead of us,” he concluded.
