The hope of host and win is still on course as Ghana’s top seed Wisdom Na-Adjrago staged an outstanding performance on day three of the McDan open West African championship.
Despite a feisty clash in a searing sun last Tuesday to eke out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Benin’s Theopile Segodo in 2hrs 25min, Wisdom saw off his fellow Ghanaian, Andrews Appiah, in a somewhat easy fight to lope to the next stage with a two straight set victory 6-1, 6-2 with the hope of continuing his last year’s heroics despite coming off second best against defending champions Michael Moses of Nigeria.
In the all Ghana affair, Bernard Dugbah stove off pressure from Reginald Quartey to win 6:2, 6:2 while Bernard Ashitey Armaah conquered Isaac Titriku 6-3, 6-1

However, in spite of Ghana’s astonishing performance so far in the 2017 edition, day three has recorded some upsets with Jean Kandangah of Togo outclassing Charles Asomani of Ghana 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 to progress.
Francis Akpese showed glimpses of a comeback to win the second set but the Ghanaian hopes were snuffed out in the third set by the much experienced Togolese Thomas Setodji who smiled in the end with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
In the ladies game, Ghana failed to impress as Naa Mckorley lost to her Nigerian counterpart Lizzy Airhunmunde in two straight set 6-1, 6-1.
The competition enters day 4 on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
