Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Nasam Yakubu claims there are quality goalkeepers in the Ghana Premier League.
Head coach Avram Grant has not invited any other locally based goalkeeper aside AshantiGold SC’s Fatau Dauda for Black Stars assignments since taking over as Ghana coach.
This has triggered claims amongst fans that there are no quality goalkeepers in the domestic top flight.
But Yakubu, who has been with the Black Stars team for the past three years, insists there are good goalkeepers in the Ghana league.
“Yes we have. Wa All Stars have two very good goalkeepers in Richard Ofori and Baba Musah and Kotoko has Eric Ofori Antwi and Ashgold has Robert Dabuo,” Yakubu told an Accra-based radio station Starr fm
“I think we have a couple of them (quality goalkeepers) around just that they are yet to be given the opportunity to join the national team.”
Recently Grant noted that, locally based players including goalkeepers, who perform well in the Premier League must first prove themselves in the Local Black Stars team before they can earn call-ups to the Black Stars.
Ghana’s current goalkeeper Razak Brimah came under serious criticism after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations where the team lost the final on penalties to Cote d’Ivoire.
