Dr. Kwame Amoako Tuffuor, a former Executive Chairman of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) says the Accra High Court decision to award him damages to the tune of GHC 130, 000 exonerates him of any wrongdoing during his tenure in charge of the programme.
Dr. Amoako Tuffuor’s dismissal in April 2008, which was confirmed by then Information Minister, Oboshie Sai-Cofie, and Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, was said to be part of a re-structuring exercise to inject efficiency into the programme.
The Accra High Court on Monday faulted the government’s decision and awarded damages to the DR. Amoako-Tuffuor.
In an interview with Myjoyonline.com, the visibly elated Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor said the ruling goes a long way to say all the cases of corruption and malfeasance cited against him were non-existent. He added that similar audits could not indict him as all have proven him not guilty of wrong action.
Dr. Amoako Tuffuor revealed the School Feeding Programme was his brainchild and not a policy formulated by the NPP as is widely known. According to him, he is opened to offers to help the government of the day to make the programme more successful.
According to Dr. Amoako Tuffuor, damages awarded him will go straight into his foundation which serves the interest of children in this country. The Amoako-Tuffuor Foundation according to him is tailored at vulnerable children who can’t afford hospital bills, school fees, and also caters for some orphanages in the country.
Dr. Amoako Tuffuor added that the damages awarded him included salary arrears and interest accumulated over the time he was wrongfully sacked over what he says were government’s own reasons for the sack.
