Ace broadcaster Gifty Anti has commemorated 25 years of media work with the launch of two new books.
The books titled, 'Room 5005' and 'Broken but Beautiful', tell the full story of Gifty’s media journey.
On February 13, 1997, Ms Anti started working as a Floor Manager on the first-ever morning show in Ghana, the Breakfast Show, at GBC.
Twenty-Five years down the line, her journey has impacted lots of lives, especially women, as she has risen to become one of the celebrated broadcast journalists in Ghana.
At the book launch, Oheneyere Gifty Anti said: ‘‘It’s been a journey. I didn’t think I would come this far. My father who woke me up at 4:00am on the 13th of February, 1997 to go on the Breakfast Show to be a Floor Manager, was excited because my name would appear on screens as the Floor Manager. He never thought I would be here today".
She also recounted how the Covid-19 pandemic and the fact that she contracted the virus, inspired the book 'Room 5005'.
“Exactly 2-years ago today, I was on one of the last flights to Ghana before Ghana closed its borders for 6 months and it was here at the African Regent Hotel, where I lodged in Room 5005. At first, anytime I come around, people would associate with me then suddenly because of the corona virus nobody wanted to have anything to do with me. Broken but beautiful is also like a sequel to Room 5005, because I was so broken in that room. I saw the worst side of me and the best side of me,’’ she said.
She also seized the opportunity to encourage young media practitioners to work hard and gain a foothold in the industry as she calls for more areas to be explored by practitioners.
‘‘We are making the impact but there’s more we can do, there’s more we must aspire to do. There are areas we need to focus on more but we have done well. I just want the young ones to kill themselves a bit more, to believe in themselves, take risks, challenges, make sacrifices, dirty their hands and have some scares. They must do a little bit more for the love of the profession, the country and the people.’’
Those who have been touched by her works also spoke to JoyNews.
“This is the woman I have been watching growing up and have admired her, looked up to her. She doesn’t only encourage me but has time to listen to me whenever I have problems,” one of the fans told JoyNews.
Another said, ‘‘she has respect for humans no matter your age. She has put me on track and not to look into the past but believe in myself to achieve my dreams.’’
‘‘She has helped me boost my confidence and work towards impacting society.”
Ms. Gifty Anti is a multiple award-winning journalist, presenter and author with five books to her credit.
She is also a philanthropist with three charity outlets that support the wellbeing of the less privileged.
