Ghana’s disabled athlete, Ajara Mohamed, will be gunning for a medal in the finals of the Women’s para-sport 1500m T54 race at the Hampdon Park, Stadium, Glasgow on Wednesday.
Ajara, who qualified with a time of 4:04:04 sec, to placed fourth in a hotly contested race managed to book a place in the finals as one of the fastest runners after the first three winners.
She qualified alongside Anita Fordjour, who made 4;21:24 secs, in the second Heats of 1500m T54 race.
The duo, the nation’s leading female disable athletes will be seeking to put smiles on the faces of Ghanaians as they moved into the finals of the competition with the determination to win medals.
In the Men’s side, Felix Acheampong managed to sail through to the quarter finals of the Men’s Para-sports 1500 T54 race after clocking 3:33sec.
However, Patrick Obeng, who was in a good position to advance to the quarter finals lost control in the last round of the Men’s para-sport 1500 T54 and fell off from his wheel chair in the last round of the race.
Obeng, was then third in the race and could have easily secure a place in the quarter finals but the fall, denied him the opportunity.
However, his fellow para-athlete Emmanuel Boateng failed to make progress in the race.
In Shooting, two debutants Chodo Mercy and Sapak Philomina placed 22 and 23 in the women’s 50m rifle qualification.
