There was an uneasy calm in the camp of Ghana on Sunday, as attempts by officials to expel Emmanuel Nartey – Under-73kg Judo Ka, from camp for breach of codes of conduct, ended up in a confrontation between the athlete and officials,

Nartey, an officer in the British Army and the number one in Under-73kg in the Commonwealth Division, came into confrontation with the Chef D’ Mission, Chris Essilfie, after he posted a comment on his Facebook wall.

Nartey, who was a medal hopeful for the nation but could not succeed as a result of injury, posted on his wall, “Ghana has refuse to pay for my expenses! Well done. “Confusion in camp, the athletes are not happy because they haven't given them what they are entitle for.

This, the Chef D’ Mission deemed as an act of misconduct and confronted the United Kingdom (UK) based athlete and subsequently demanded his expulsion from the camp.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports, reveals that, Nartey resisted the expulsion as he argued with security officials at the Games Village, in the presence of other officials, till tempers were calmed for him to remain in the village.

Nartey according to the information, however left camp in the early hours of Monday to Russia to compete in the World Championship slated for August 24 to September 1.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, Nartey confirmed there was confrontation in camp but added that he was only fighting for what was due him and what was right, adding that, he did not see his comments on face book as an act of misconduct.

“They accused me of misconduct and i challenged them to prove that in the code of conducts at the village.

“I am a British citizen, but decided to compete for Ghana and so they have no right to treat me anyhow in my country”. He stated.

Nartey however stated that, the unprovoked posting on his wall, was not the reason to expel him from camp, but rather outstanding issues over money during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“I questioned them over funds they received from the IOC and Judo Federation after my qualification to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“They have since seen me as a rebel and am sure it is one of the reason for this naked hatred.” He stated.
