Ghana’s Judo team at the just ended 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, were compelled to compete with borrowed uniforms.
The uniforms according to our sources in the games village revealed that, the Judokas had to rely on borrowed uniforms in view of the fact that, the ones arranged for the team were not available as at the time of their schedule.
In addition, the uniforms had no Ghana flags embossed on them, a situation which brings to fore some of the organizational challenges that occurred at the Games under the leadership of Prof. Francis Dodoo’s Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
Ghana’s Judo Federation president, Emmanuel Tetteh confirmed to the media, that the team’s branded costume arrived a day after their competition, which led to the borrowing of these uniforms which the athletes were not familiar with.
The President believes the team would have done better than just picking a bronze.
According to him, the use of the ‘foreign’ costume with no Ghana inscription incurred the displeasure of the competition’s officials to slap Ghana with disqualifications from time to time.
Tetteh, who has had issues with members of the GOC, which resulted in the revocation of his accreditation but was later restored, expressed his displeasure over the management of affairs in camp.
“Our uniforms arrived just after we had finished our events. These are some of the things we complained about and they thought we are being mischievous. We were bent on winning more medals if the right things were done, because I invested in the team and they showed great promise in their preparations,” he added
