CK Akunnor has trained Hearts of Oak twice ahead of his first official match as new coach of the team this weekend on match day 21 of the GLO Premier league.
The former Black Stars Captain has been brought in to halt the Phobians slide in the league with rivals Asante Kotoko opening a nine point lead with just 10 matches to end the season. And his first task will be to avenge the team’s 2-0 defeat to Liberty Professionals in the first round at the Accra Sports stadium this Sunday.
In an interview with JOY Sports CK Akunnor stated that, he is aiming for a good start in only his second premier league coaching job.
“I’m not tensed but it’s always good to feel pressure since it gives you the edge”. Said Akunnor
“I will do this with the best of my knowledge and I believe it will turn out well at the end”.
Liberty Professionals are aware Hearts of Oak is under pressure to turn their season around beginning with Sunday’s game but they have other ideas. Liberty Professionals midfielder Francis Morton explains he is sure his team mates are eager to do well against the Phobians.
“Hearts of oak is like a national team, they take every much serious but we are also ready for them since we can’t afford to lose that game on Sunday”.
Asante Kotoko must be at their best to get anything from their away game against Dwarfs to be played at the Len Clay stadium in Obuasi due to home match bans for the Cape Coast based club.
Kotoko midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei is aware that, winning the game will be vital to the team’s title chase this season.
“We don’t want to drop points for our chances of winning this season’s league to go waste”. He told JOY Sports
Meanwhile, Dwarfs Coach Professor Mintah is not happy his side will be playing away from home but hopes for a win.
“Regardless of where we are playing we are ready for Kotoko and I don’t think they pose any threat to us”.
“They should rather be cautious of us because we will give them a tough time”
Ashanti Gold will be hoping to make it six wins out of six in their away game at Kpando against Heart of Lions. Ashgold are revived under former captain Yaw Acheampong who has inspired five straight wins since taking over the coaching reigns and now just 10 points behind leaders’ Kotoko.
Wassaman United will be at the Tarkwa Park to play Aduana Stars, Arsenal host Tema Youth at the Golden city park while new Edubiase face All Stars at the Bekwai Park with Mighty Jets hosting SC Medeama at the Accra sports stadium on Saturday.
Champions Chelsea has their game against Bechem United postponed because of their CAF Champions’ league qualifier with Raja Casablanca from Morocco on Sunday.
