Over 900 residents in three communities at the Prestea-Huni Valley District have benefited from free health screening exercise organized by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, Damang Mine of the Western Region.
The communities which benefited from the exercise include Mehuntem, Kwabenaho and Koduakrom.
The residents in these three communities were screened, treated and provided free medication as part of the exercise.
The exercise which was in collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Tarkwa and Sekondi Takoradi branches saw two doctors and three nurses sponsored by Goldfields Foundation under its scholarship program volunteered to assist in this year’s health outreach.
Speaking to Adom News at the event, the Community Affairs of Goldfields Ghana Limited Damang Mine, Abdel-Razak Yakubu said the exercise forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to residents in their catchment area.
He said that the Medical Outreach Programme has also been instituted to bring health care to the doorstep of community members.
Abdel-Razak added that 433 people from Koduakrom, 380 from Menhuntem and 153 Kwabenaho making 966 residents were screened and treated against the targeted 800 people.
He also entreated the residents to go for regular medical check-ups since issues of relating are paramount.
Abdel-Razak assured the communities that Goldfields Ghana will continue to support the wellbeing of residents in their catchment area and also contribute their quota to the country’s development.
The Rotary clubs also provided dewormers for the community folks and shared clothes to the under privileged in the communities.
Meanwhile, the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipal Director of Health Service, Emmanuel Kofi Tamakloe commended the Goldfields Ghana Limited Damang Mine for embarking on such laudable initiative.
He also called on other corporate bodies to emulate the gesture as part of efforts to assist government in addressing numerous challenges in the country.
