Akosua Manu, an aide to the 2028 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the government to refund monies paid by applicants who were unsuccessful in the ongoing security services recruitment exercise.
She made the call during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sɛn programme on Thursday, March 12.
Her remarks follow disclosures by the Minister for the Interior that more than 500,000 people applied for the recruitment exercise, even though only about 5,000 positions are available.
The situation has sparked widespread debate, with many applicants expressing frustration over the outcome of the process.
“I listened to the Interior Minister explaining why the Ghanaian youth who applied for the security recruitment and were not successful were turned away, but they asked the Ghanaian youth to campaign and vote for them in the 2024 general elections and that they would be given jobs,” she said.
“We are told over 500,000 persons applied, and we know the space for recruitment is 5,000, and these people paid for the forms.”
She further alleged that some applicants had paid large sums of money through unofficial channels in an attempt to secure placement in the services.
“Some are also complaining on social media that they paid GH¢40,000 to GH¢50,000 for protocol,” she added. “So I ask that the government should refund those monies to them.”
