Government is designing a 15 year comprehensive blueprint for the country’s rail sector.
This blueprint among other things will identify high growth potential areas in the country and design a plan for rail services to be extended there.
Transport Minister Mike Hammah said the master plan would guide government in revamping the entire rail network.
He said this is a major priority of the Mills administration.
“The master plan would, apart from [expanding] the existing rail network, will also target areas with high growth potential…areas of mineral deposits, areas you can generate a lot of traffic, agricultural potential, to help to transport goods at a cheaper cost,” he told Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng.
Mr Hammah said previous attempts to revamp the rail sector failed because of lack of political. “You need political will to implement these policies and that is what the current government has and you can see clearly from Prof. Mills’ pronouncements he is determined to develop the rail sector.”
