President John Dramani Mahama said on Monday that the government would not hesitate to terminate the contracts of all road construction contractors who have failed to execute their projects according to schedule.
He said government was committed to constructing feeder roads that would facilitate the transportation of both cash and food crops to the commercial centres and would, therefore, not tolerate contractors who delayed construction.
Mahama made this announcement to separate rallies in the Ashanti Region as part of a four-day campaign tour there.
During his stay in the region, President Mahama would address rallies, call on chiefs, and inaugurate and inspect development projects in the areas that he visited.
The President said that agriculture had been the backbone of the country’s economy and that government would continue to support and promote activities that would enhance the growth and development of the sector, making Ghana self-sufficient and a net exporter of foodstuff.
He expressed regret that over the years, the country has recorded massive harvest losses due mainly to a lack of passable roads and promised that a vote for the National Democratic Congress in the December polls was a vote for continued improvement to Ghana’s living standards.
President Mahama, who also visited New Edubiase, Fumso, Obuasi, Akrofuom and Adansi East constituencies, appealed to the electorate not to participate in illegal activities that could undermine the validity next month’s general election.
He told voters that, “elections are not won by insults, attacks and intimidation, but through good packaging of ideas, policies and issues,” and cautioned them to follow voting instructions to avoid damaging the ballot paper and nullifying their votes as had happened in previous elections.
