Kotoko’s defender Amos Frimpong refuses to throw in the title towel. This comes after Asante Kotoko’ 1-1 draw with arch rivals on Sunday was a hammer blow to their championship hopes, leaving leaders Hearts of Oak five points clear with nine games to go.
The Phobians could even extend the gap should they beat defending champions Ashgold at the Accra Sports Stadium and Kotoko loses to New Edubiase at the Nana Gyamfi park in Bekwai.
But a defiant Frimpong said: “We’ve got another important game today to bounce back in.”
“There is no professional footballer who steps on to a pitch and says, ‘okay, we’re just going to chuck this one in’, he told Adom Fm.
“Hearts, likewise. They play New Edubiase in their last game of the season at Nana Gyamfi park which could determine their fate in the league next season. First and foremost, though, we need to go to Bekwai and win”, added Kotoko captain.
“We’ve got eight tough games after that, so nothing is a given.
“This season has been a massive learning curve. Not many people thought we’d be where we are now judging from what we went through at the beginning of the season but we’ve proved a lot of people wrong.
“We’ve proven that we can win the league so we need to play above ourselves and produce good results week in, week out.”
“We have the players to win the title,” Amos said. “Our squad is strong. We can beat anyone; we just have to believe in ourselves.”
