A 35-year woman, carrying a three-month old pregnancy, was reported to have committed suicide at Abor in the Keta Municipal Area, last Wednesday.
The woman identified as Gladys Dzokoto, a hairdresser, was said to have taken her life following her 24-year old lover’s refusal to have the pregnancy terminated.
A source at Abor told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Gladys Dzokoto, mother of two, had been in a relationship with Jacob Afodoanyi, a barber at Abor.
The source said Ms Dzokoto became pregnant and wanted it terminated but Afordoanyi refused and would not give her lover money for the abortion.
He said this led to quarrels between them.
The source said the two lovers in the morning of July 27, this year fiercely argued over the issue until Afodoanyi stormed out of the house.
He said Afordoanyi returned at about 1300 hours with some balls of kenkey for the deceased only to find her hanging on a piece of cloth tied to a roofing rafter.
The source said Afordoanyi raised alarm and with the help of others, untied Dzokoto and rushed her to the Sacred Heart Hospital at Abor, but was pronounced dead.
Mr Dennis Fiakpui, Akatsi District Police Commander confirming the case said, investigations were ongoing and that further clues could emerge from the postmortem result.
