Some basic school head teachers in Accra are complaining about a delay in the payment of their capitation grants for this term.
Some of them who showed at Joy FM under condition of anonymity say they can’t understand why funds have not been released four months into the school term when government has announced that the funds have been released.
They say most of them are now heavily indebted and having to avoid their school’s creditors who are bent on taking their monies before the term ends.
One of the head teachers said they had been pre-financing many of the necessary expenses and could no longer sustain the trend.
He said procuring teaching learning materials had become a herculean challenge owing to the unavailability of funds.
Meanwhile, the Accra Metro-Director of Education, Kofi Osei has denied speculations that his office had received the money but was refusing to pay the schools.
He said no region in the country had received capitation grants for the period and that it was erroneous for teachers to accuse him of withholding their grants.
