Kpando-based Heart of Lions have maintained their spot on top of the Zone 3 Access Bank Division One League table, after clinching victory in a Volta Regional derby.
An 80th-minute strike from Benson Kofi Yeboah went answered by Akatsi All Stars, in a Week 13 fixture.
Heart of Lions lies on top of the table with 29 points recording 9 wins in 13 games, while All Stars occupies the 8th position with 16 points.
Coach Salifu Fatao was grateful to the team for securing all 3 points, but wasn't impressed with his side’s performance.
He indicated that they couldn't play their planned tactics due to the bad state of the home turf of All-Stars in Akatsi.
“It was challenging for us to put the ball down and play. So at least, adjusting themselves to the field and scoring a goal, I will say I am okay with the result”, he said.
Coach Fatao said his side “will maintain focus” throughout the first and second rounds to secure qualification to the Ghana Premier League.
Akatsi All Stars have not had the best of results since the start of the 20022/23 season, hence there is immense pressure on the team to perform to expectations.
Head Coach of Akatsi All Stars, Francis Makiya, appealed to the supporters to continue having fate in the team, as they are working hard at returning to winning ways.
“It is a work in progress, there is more room for improvement. We will go back to the drawing table and work towards the next game. we will win and we will definitely make the supporters and community proud”, he said.
Heart of Lions will host Vision FC in Kpando in the Week 14 fixture, while Akatsi All-Stars will travel to play Na God FC.
Ho-based Volta Rangers lies just a point above the relegation zone with 13 points. They play host to Susubribi SC on Sunday at the Ho Sports Stadium.
