Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their highest score in the premiership when they beat relegation bound Sekondi Hasaacas 5-0 in the 27th Week Premier League match at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra on Sunday.
The massive score line has thus boosted the chances of the club in making a claim for the premiership title with a point separating them and the current leaders, Obuasi Ashgold.
Hearts opened the scores in the fourth minute through Mahatma Otoo, when he latched on the ball in the midst of two defenders and shrugged them off to deliver a mid volley into the net to the delight of the home fans.
Eleven minutes on, Hearts had an opportunity to increase the tally to two after a goal bound shot was handled by Hasaacas' Charles Duah in the vital area for the referee to whistle for a penalty, but the effort was wasted by Samuel Afum as he shot feebly into the waiting hands of keeper Michael Addo.
Hasaacas from then had a slight dominance in the midfield, but they were unable to penetrate the defence of Hearts and it was rather the home team that smiled at the latter stages of the first half with the second goal.
Afum ensured that this time round he made amends when he tapped in a perfect pass from Otoo in the 42nd minute to send the partisan fans in wild jubilation.
The second half saw the visitors lifting up their game and making several attempts at scoring but they were denied any due to their inability to deliver accurate shots in front of goal with Joseph Ato Bisah and Joe Agyemang fumbling with a number of opportunities that came their way.
Having failed to make use of their chances, Hearts returned pressure on the troubled Hasaacas side in the 69th minute following a deep race into their defence but Obed Ansah's subsequent cross crawled in front of the goal line without a connector as Douglas Nkrumah was late in getting a touch to the ball.
Hasaacas responded with another attempt at goal after Emmanuel Ankobea was presented with a chance but the striker allowed Karimu Alhassan to make a timely clearance in the 73rd minute.
Hearts top marksman, Otoo put the game beyond Hasaacas a minute later with a bold solo move which saw him mesmerize the defence of their opponents before delivering the onslaught for the goal.
In a bid to increase their goal tally and ensure a good chase on the League leaders, Hearts maintained pressure on the visitors and the introduction of Kofi Abanga, Felix Baffoe and Tawrick Jibril was enough for them to realize the dream.
Jibril was hand to justify his presence as he accounted for the last two goals in the 82nd and 86th minutes respectively with a thrilling and daring performance on the day.
The youngster in a solo move from the edge of the box moved deeply into the Hasaacas area, dribbling every defender on sight including the goalkeeper before placing the ball into an empty net.
Four minutes on, Jibril was located at the edge of the box again with a perfect pass from Baffoe and his non-drop shot hit the roof of the net before dropping into the post for his personal second and the final goal to send the Phobian faithful into wild dancing and praise singing.Source: GNA
