The Chief State Attorney nominated for Deputy Attorney General, Anthony Gyambibi has promised to end the government’s losing streak of high profile cases in court.
According to the deputy Attorney General designate who was speaking at his vetting Thursday, he will focus on improving conditions within the AG’s department to attract experienced prosecutors.
Mr. Gyambibi said the recent losing streak of high profile cases could not be attributed to incompetence since there are enough experience hands at the department.
He added that conditions of service at the department are not attractive and also not adequate thereby lawyers who come in abandon their positions for other attractive offers elsewhere.
The deputy Attorney General designate was also questioned by the committee on some high-profile cases he handled in 1989.
In the said case, Dr. Sarfo Adu vs Kwamena Bartels et al, he was questioned whether the charges of death by firing squad had merit.
According to the case, the accused were facing death penalty for repaying a loan before scheduled.
But Gyambibi maintained that the judge decision to acquit the accused was wrong and if he had his way then he would have appealed the ruling.
