Four police officers allegedly involved in a case of dispossessing a businessman of his valuables including foreign cash have been re-arrested on the orders of the Police Administration. The development followed fresh evidence trampled upon by the Police based on stories carried in an Accra-based newspaper. The police officers are DSP Patrick Kwapong of the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), Corporal Denis Quansah of the National Police Headquarters, Sgt. John Agyapong and C/Inspector Thomas Adu, both of the Panthers Unit. The four, who had earlier been granted bail by an Accra court, are also currently on interdiction for their alleged involvement in the stealing case that took place at a hotel in Dzorwulu on February 2, 2009. It would be recalled that the four policemen allegedly robbed a Switzerland-based Ghanaian, Kwaku Dua of the sum of $53,000 and 8,000 euro in addition to a digital camera and other valuables. They were reported to have gone to the said hotel to arrest Mr. Dua upon a tip off that the man was engaged in a fraudulent business. Reports however said Kwaku Dua came to the country to purchase gold through the help of a friend called, Ams Amanor. An Accra-based newspaper recently opened a new chapter in the case having cited the stealing of cocaine by the police personnel. This latest arrest, according to the Police, has been informed by the need to ensure a hitch-free investigation into the case. The Police Administration used the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to performing its functions without basis or regard to the personalities involved. The administration asked however that the media handles with care information pertaining to alleged police involvement in narcotic matters or compromise of their positions. “This way the suspects cannot jump justice.” Source: Daily Guide
