The fire that swept through three warehouses of the North Industrial Area, Accra on Wednesday, was still smoldering Thursday afternoon despite the thousands of litres of water used by the fire fighters. A multi-million warehouse including five adjoining structures were all gone by the time blazing fire was subdued. Joy News’ Francis Abban who was at the scene Wednesday went back Thursday and reported that although there was no loss of life, the contents of a warehouse in the area have been reduced to ashes. The Acting Chief Fire Officer with the Ghana National Fire Service, Brigadier General John Bosco Guyiri told Joy FM the cause of the fire would be established after the investigations. Meanwhile, residents in the western parts of Accra have been without power as a result of Wednesday’s fire outbreak. According to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), the smoke from the fire settled on the insulators of one of the towers that was very close to the fire. The GRIDCo PRO, Albert Kwesi Quainoo told Joy FM that as a result two power lines that connect Accra to the Mallam Sub-Station went off rendering several ECG customers out of power. The PRO stated ordinarily, the Mallam Sub-Station supplies between 120 to 140 mega watts of power but Wednesday’s incident has led to a major decrease in power (40 mega watts) supplied by the sub-station. According to the GRIDCo PRO, their engineers are on the ground restoring the insulators and other equipment that got caught up in the fire incident.
