The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), has appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Enyonam Kpekpena as the new Executive Director of the Institution.
She takes over from Ing Samuel Magnus Asiedu, who has served the institution in an acting capacity for the past 10 months, after the exit of the then Executive Director, Ing David Kwatia Nyante.
At a brief but impressive handing-over ceremony held at the Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra on Wednesday, 1st October, 2025, the President of GhIE, Ing Ludwig Annang Hesse, led the handing-over of the mantle from Ing Samuel Magnus Asiedu to Ing Dr. (Mrs.) Enyonam Kpekpena as the new Executive Director of GhIE.
The President of GhIE also used the occasion to express appreciation to Ing Samuel Magnus Asiedu for his dedicated service to the institution.
During Ing Asiedu’s 10 months of dedicated service to GhIE, he is credited with a lot of project initiatives and accomplishments. Notably among them include, the streamlining of the accounts unit, help in recruiting two new directors, the execution of the GhIE Engineering Conference and AGM, the Inauguration of the GhIE Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADR Centre), and the remodeling and refurbishment of the GhIE e-Library. Under his eagle eye, the state of the institution’s finances has considerably improved.
Ing Ludwig Annang Hesse explained that the Executive Director’s role is a sacrificial job for GhIE members; therefore, he thanked the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for allowing Ing Kpekpena to provide this service to GhIE on secondment.
“We didn’t ask for you because you are a woman, we asked for you because you are competent to take on this role for the institution,” the GhIE President concluded.
In his handing over address, the outgoing Executive Director of GhIE, Ing Samuel Magnus Asiedu said, it had been an honour and a privilege to serve as Acting Executive Director of GhIE over the past 10 months.

“I am deeply grateful to the Council, staff and members for your trust, collaboration, and unwavering support. Your dedication has made my role not only fulfilling but truly inspiring. I am delighted to hand over to Ing Dr. Enyonam Kpekpena as the new Executive Director, a visionary leader whose experience and passion will undoubtedly propel GhIE to greater heights,” Ing. Samuel Magnus Asiedu added.
In her acceptance speech, Ing Dr. Enyonam Kpekpena said, she would continue from where her predecessors left off. She pledged to give her very best and provide an unalloyed service to the institution as the new Executive Director.
“As I take over the mantle, I am mindful of the vision, dedication, and sacrifices of those who have led this noble institution before me. Their contributions have built GhIE into the highly respected professional body it is today—one that shapes national policy, drives engineering excellence, and provides a platform for advocacy and innovation across all sectors of our nation’s development.” Ing Enyonam Kpekpena said.
She added, “I take this responsibility not only as a personal honour but as a call to service—service to our members, service to our profession, and service to Ghana. My commitment is to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessors, ensuring that GhIE continues to be a leader in promoting engineering standards, advancing technology and innovation, and influencing national development priorities.”
“I am grateful to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for releasing me on secondment and for their continuous support to the engineering profession. I am equally thankful to my husband, Ing Kwame Kpekpena, my mum Madam Josephine Matanawui, my dear sisters, family, colleagues, Women in Engineering (WinE) Ghana members, mentors, and partners who have encouraged me along this journey.”
A congratulatory message was delivered by the President-Elect of GhIE, Ing. Sophia Tijani, who stated that it has been misconstrued by a lot of people that women are their own enemies, but, with GhIE Women-in-Engineering, it is the reverse.

She pledged her full support to Ing Dr. Enyonam Kpekpena to succeed as the new Executive Director of GhIE.
The President of WinE Ghana, Ing Jane Naki Tetteh-Anowie, on behalf of WinE, said, “Dr. Kpekpena has been a shining light for women in engineering, an inspiration, a mentor, and a trailblazer. Her dedication, excellence, and service to both GhIE and WinE have left an indelible mark, and we are deeply proud to see her step into this new role.”
Other members who gave congratulatory messages include, Ing Dr. Kwame Boakye (a past president of GhIE) and Ing Dr. Patrick Amoah Bekoe (the current Vice-President of GhIE). Ing Carlien Bou-Chedid, (a past president and executive secretary of GhIE), Ing Kwame Kpekpena, the husband of the new Executive Director, and some past Presidents and Council members, were present to witness the handing-over ceremony.
