Doctors at the Surgical Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi are said to be redirecting emergency cases to other hospitals in the city. The doctors are unhappy with the hospital’s decision not to retain any of the over 70 newly trained specialists. They argue the decision by the authorities would worsen the already critical situation at the surgical wards which is currently choked. Luv FM’s Kofi Adu Domfeh was at the hospital and reports the situation is pathetic. “I must say it is a very serious situation here at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital… As I speak to you an ambulance from the Manhyia District Hospital just veered into the Emergency and Accident Unit of the of the [hospital]…The medical officers from the Manhyia Hospital have been asked to divert their van to [another hospital],” he said. Hospital authorities have been tight-lipped on the matter. Play the attached audio for excerpts of the report
