One of the key heads of the Yaa Ansaa Family that has been fighting the installation of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III as Akwamuhene has agreed to pursue peace.

Abrewatia Love Adwo Som, who has been at the centre of Akwamu chieftaincy dispute for over 27 years, on Sunday – during the celebration of Akwasidae festival – finally let sleeping dogs lie and pledged allegiance to Akwamuhene.

Sunday also saw all the divisional chiefs of Akwamu who are the Kingmakers of the great Akwamu paramount (Amanpon Kofi) stool affirming their loyalty to the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto lll.

The Akwamu State with its intriguing history has suffered development setbacks in the past 27 years due to a protracted family dispute pertaining to a misunderstanding over the installation of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III as Akwamuhene.

The recent decision by the National House of Chiefs in favour of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto as the lawfully installed Paramount Chief of Akwamu has proved to be a turning point in the history of these descendants of warriors.

This development may be attributed to the considerable restraint and magnanimity of Odeneho himself who despite the enormous pressure that the challenge to his legitimacy brought him was determined to work towards reuniting his family.

It is said that there is a reason why a car’s windshield is made a lot bigger than the rear-view mirror.  It means simply that one’s future is more important than one’s past. Nowhere was this principle more evident than at Bogyawe Palace, Akwamufie, at the weekend.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday 13th July, at the forecourt of the Royal Senchi Hotel, Akosombo, with an impressive display of culinary prowess by the various divisional seats of the Akwamu State. The Akwamu Interdivisional Cookery Contest was one of the key activities marking the year-long celebration of Nana Afrakoma’s 55th Anniversary as Queen-mother.

Sunday 14th July was another memorable day as the Paramount Chief of Aburi Traditional Area, Otobuor Nana Gyan Kwasi, Nana Ansah Sasraku, Akuapem Mamfehene, Nana Otu Otu Panin, Akuapem Mamponghene, Nana Akuapem Abotakyihene, Okukrubour Nene Teye Kwasi Agyeman Dodowahene together with the M.P for Asuogyaman, Hon. Thomas Apem Nyarko, the DCE, Hon. Samuel Agyekum and Hon. Samuel Mills,  as well as kinsmen from near and far gathered at the Bogyawe Palace in Akwamufie to celebrate Akwasidae,  and pay homage to Nana Afrakoma the Akwamuhemaa and her son, the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III.

The day also saw all the divisional chiefs of Akwamu who are the Kingmakers of the great Akwamu paramount (Amanpon Kofi) stool affirming their loyalty to the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto lll

The Akwamu State with its intriguing history, has suffered development setbacks in the past 27 years due to a protracted family dispute pertaining to a misunderstanding over the installation of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III as Akwamuhene. The recent decision by the National House of Chiefs in favour of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto as the lawfully installed Paramount Chief of Akwamu has proved to be a turning point in the history of these descendants of warriors.

Indeed, the occasion saw a tremendous turnaround in the long-standing chieftaincy dispute when the opposing family of……joined in the days jubilations. This development may be attributed to the considerable restraint and magnanimity of Odeneho himself who despite weathering enormous pressure as a result of the challenge to his legitimacy, was determined to work towards re-uniting his family.

Especially notable among the dignitaries present was Abrewatia Love Adwo Som whom it may be recalled, took legal action against Nana Afrakoma in challenge to the installation of Odeneho in February 2011 as Akwamuhene. Accompanied by her children, Abrewatia made a public declaration that after so many years of litigation, she had taken the decision to disjoint herself from the protracted legal dispute in order to join forces to foster peace and development in Akwamu. She thanked Almighty God for making it possible for Akwamus to come together in celebration of Akwasidae.

The Akwamuhene on his part, commended Abrewatia for her wisdom, vowing to honour the confidence she has placed in him by always abiding by the pledge he made to his people at his installation. He went on to thank her and her children for their remarkable demonstration of love for Akwamu, calling on all to use the episode as a learning experience but also as a source of pride.

A keen observer of Akwamu history cannot fail to sense that there is a new story being written, perhaps not of military prowess or conquering feats as in days of old, but of a people who continue to prove by their resilience that, like the proverbial phoenix, they have risen out of the burning ashes and are set to soar to even greater heights.

The good people of Ghana and the world are no doubt looking forward to witnessing the next chapter in this intriguing unfolding story.

Long live Akwamuman, Long Live Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Long Live Nana Afrakoma, and Long Live Ghana.
