KFC Ghana (a member of the Mohinani Group) has partnered Vida Café to donate items worth ¢15,000 to the aged and the sick in the Creative Arts industry.
The items include bags of rice, oil, tin tomatoes and others.
According to KFC and Vida Café, this is their way of giving back to society.
Present at the presentation was Barbara Oteng Gyasi, the Tourism Minister; Bessa Simons, the Acting President of the Musicians Union Of Ghana (MUSIGA) and Mark Okraku-Mantey.
Other personalities in attendance included Ex-MUSIGA President Diana Hopeson; Administrator of MUSIGA, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey; Secretary of the National Film Authority, Juliet Asante; Veteran musician, Pat Thomas; Dela Hayes, Dr Mary Ghana and others.
Bessa Simons indicated that the Union launched an appeal so its members, especially the veterans could get help amid the pandemic.
Mrs Oteng Gyasi commended KFC and Vida Café for their support and willingness to help the industry especially at a time their businesses have also suffered a setback due to the coronavirus.
“The impact of the coronavirus on the aged was severe. We appreciate what companies are doing for the creative arts industry.
“We want to take the steps to support the current people so they don’t go through what the aged went through so they can take care of themselves in future.”
She called on other institutions to help the industry while the Ministry works on getting proper structures in place.
“We are working on an insurance policy for practitioners in the industry including musicians, filmmakers and everyone in the sector. The current artiste and generations to come will need the necessary support in the future.”
Mrs Oteng Gyasi said she was hoping for a better 2020 but unfortunately Covid-19 has not made things easy and advised industry players to make use of the virtual space.
“Use creative means to do great things to be able to put out the best when coronavirus is over. The virtual space will be taken advantage of even though the industry will not derive much but they will support and make things happen for the industry,” she said.
On his part, Mr Okraku-Mantey also thanked KFC and Vida Café for supporting the industry during the pandemic.
He also pleaded that institutions should not only focus on musicians but actors as well and other sectors of the Creative Arts industry.
Bessa Simons said his outfit will make sure the aged in other parts of the country also receive the support they need.
