It was an anti-climax for Patrick Allotey whose maiden fight in the United States ended before it even began after the Ghanaian was knocked out in only the second round of their scheduled 10-rounder at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York.
Allotey was fighting back when he suddenly fell to the canvas and failed to even raise his head as the referee counted to end his US debut even before some of the fans knew what was happening.
A brief but action-packed five minutes between southpaw Patrick Teixeira (now 25-0, 20 KOs) and Patrick Allotey (falls to 30-2, 24 KOs).
Fan-friendly from the opening bell, the two skilled boxers targeted body and head with a constant stream of blows in the first, then picked up in the second round right where they left off.
But when Teixeira found a slight advantage with Allotey’s back pressed to the ropes, he fired off a stream of punches, punctuated by a right hand body shot that sent Allotey retreating to his own corner, then taking a knee.
It's not clear what actually happened to the Ghanaian but he did not beat the count, giving the still-undefeated Teixeira his 25th win at 2:04 of Round 2.
“I’m very happy and excited, and I feel very emotional about winning my first fight with Golden Boy,” said Teixeira.
“I was ready to go the full 10 rounds, but I’m glad we got the knockout. I want to get more fights to season myself and very soon fight for the world title.”
But for Allotey is a return to the drawing board as he chases the world championship dream, his second straight defeat after previously going undefeated in 30 professional fights.
