A 60,000 dollars Centre for Business Development, has been inaugurated at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), to source funding for entrepreneurial skills training and capacity building. The Centre seeks to forge collaboration with industrial, commercial and governmental entities to produce graduates of high calibre with the expertise to support Ghana’s industrial and socio-economic endeavours through quality management and customer care. The venture was made possible through the teamwork of KNUST, Global Media Alliance, Airtel Ghana Limited and Technip, a company that specialises in project management in engineering and energy.Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice Chancellor of the University, said the Centre has been strategized to focus on the provision of an enhanced platform for academic and industry partnership in the areas of business consulting and networking, entrepreneurship development, research and training as well as helpdesk for intellectual property. The Centre, he said, had already facilitated a number of initiatives between some colleges of the University, citing the recent “Business Week”, which brought together the University community, Association of Bankers and Association of Ghana Industries. He noted that the Centre has assisted KNUST to chalk another feat in its 60-year existence.Professor Ellis said the University has opened a new chapter in its bid to provide better services to the business community and other stakeholders.Mr Philip Sowah, Managing Director of Airtel, said it was his hope that the Centre would help address stakeholders’ expectations of research institutions - commercialising their potentials for sustainable development.
