A member of the National Peace Council, Maulvi Wahab Adams has condemned threats by President Mills’ Communications Director, to deal ruthlessly with some leading members of the opposition New Patriotic Party.
Koku Anyidoho who was reacting to claims by former NPP chairman Peter Mac Manu that the party would arm its supporters for the 2012 elections, told a radio station in London the government will deal with the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, and NPP chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey if they attempt to undermine the peace of the country.
In a follow-up interview with, Asempa FM on Thursday, Mr. Anyidoho justified the comments, adding he spoke on behalf of the President.
“The point the president is making through me is that, l-e-t t-h-e-m d-a-r-e, l-e-t t-h-e-m d-a-r-e, l-e-t t-h-e-m d-a-r-e, [make] wrong move,” he stated.
But Maulvi Wahab Adams described the comments as unfortunate. He reiterated the need for people in high office to be circumspect in their utterances in order not to plunge the country into chaos.
“It’s very worrying that those people from whom we expect the best of conduct indulge in such language that is likely to plunge the country into a state of disorder,” he said.
Maulvi Wahab Adam maintained that with Mr Anyidoho’s position at the presidency, he ought to be more responsible and circumspect in his utterances.
