The Renal Dialysis Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching hospital, the Akropong School for the Blind and the Drug and Alcohol-Free Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday received donations from Zoomlion Foundation.

The items donated to the three institutions include cash and provisions worth GH¢30,000.00.

Program Officer of Zoomlion Foundation, Thomas Narh Korley, who donated the items on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Zoomlion and Jospong Group of Companies, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong said the donation to the institutions forms part of activities to mark the 10^th year milestone of the business conglomerate.

The Foundation, which was launched in 2015, fronts the corporate social responsibility activities of Zoomlion Ghana and the Jospong Group of Companies.

 At Korle Bu’s Renal Dialysis Center Zoomlion donated GH¢20,000 in cash to be used by the centre to fund the treatment of four dialysis patients.

Mercy Quartey, Kwaku Kwarteng, Latifa Yakubu and Jessica Danso each received the GH¢5,000 to ease the payment of accumulated treatment bills.

Deputy Director of Nursing Service at the Renal Dialysis Unit at Korle Bu said the donation is timely as the high cost of treating kidney complications have often meant huge debts to the patients and their families.

She revealed that the increase in the number of patients seeking treatment for kidney-related problems was approaching a critical stage. She said on average the unit receives 70 new cases. Some 200 patients are currently on admission at the facility.

Also, at the Akropong School for the Blind in the Eastern Region, provisions worth two GH¢ 2,000 and an additional cash donation of GH¢ 2000.00 was donated on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.

The provisions include two bags of rice (25kg each), two cartons of Milo, two cartons of milk, two gallons of cooking oil, one carton of canned fish, 490 pieces of toilet roll, three bags of washing powder and two boxes soap.

Headmistress of the school, Mrs Mahella Narh, thanked Zoomlion for the gesture and appealed to the public to volunteer services at the institutions.

“Security is a major problem here in this school,” she lamented, urging corporate bodies and individuals to extend their assistance and kind gestures towards the provision of other essential services the school needs.

The Drug and Alcohol-Free Rehabilitation Center received cash donations GH¢ 4,000 and provisions worth GH¢2,000.

The donations to Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center were given out to support the upkeep of inmates who are currently undergoing rehabilitation from drug addiction.

The facility currently houses 25 inmates who are clothed and fed on donations from the public.

The inmates at the rehab were happy and thanked the Zoomlion Foundation for the support.

Zoomlion Foundation explains it selects institutions to donate to based on a careful selection of requests made to them by institutions. The Foundation has indicated that more corporate social responsibility activities will be undertaken in the course of the year as part of the 10th anniversary.
