Former President John Kufuor will not take part in the National Delegates Conference to elect new national executives for the New Patriotic Party.

He would however vote by proxy, Chairman of the Elections Committee of the NPP Martin Mensah Korsah told Joy News' Elton John Brobbey in an exclusive interview at the Tamale Sports Stadium, venue for Saturday's Conference.

No official reason has been given for President John Kufuor's absence, but his international assignment on climate change is believed to have taken him out of the country.

Already, 2012 presidential candidate of the party Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as well key officials within the party have arrived in Tamale, Thursday morning ahead of Saturday's Conference.

Over 5,000 delegates are expected to attend the Conference and elect new executives to steer the affairs of the party prior to the 2016 election.

All is set

The Elections Committee chairman Martin Korsah said all is set for Saturday's crucial Conference.

"Issues of security have all  been decided. We have been discussing with stakeholders how the ground movement are going to be vis-a-vis screening of people, sitting arrangement and so on.

"So everything is set, we are in good shape. We are expecting the delegates to arrive tomorrow as expected," he revealed.

Political activity has intensified at the stadium, with billboards and posters competing for space and attention.

A major platform was being mounted when Myjoyonline.com got to the stadium Thursday afternoon.

According to Mensah Korsah, voting will be done according to regions. Delegates in a particular region will be called and they will go to a designated polling station to vote.

Voting without pictures

Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah said the Committee has decided that delegates without photographs on their albums can only vote if they produce any other form of identity or are vouched for by constituency executives.

Court injunction

Constituency executives in three constituencies in the Ashanti Region are racing against time to have a re-run of constituency elections to select new executive.

A court has put an injunction on delegates from those affected constituencies from voting  following disputed constituency elections.

A re-run of elections has been ordered in the affected areas. Mensah Korsah said until "proper" and "credible" elections are held in those areas, the court's decision stands.
