A young man has been arrested by the Panthers Unit of the Kumasi Regional Police with the Kumasi Mayor escaping assault.
Sources say the young man is the nephew of a Ghanaian domiciled abroad, Dr Oduro Sarpong, who is laying claim to a parcel of land in front of the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council.
The area has been described as a security zone which cannot be sold.
The Spokes person for the Ashanti Regional Minister, Francis Dodovi told Adom News that Dr. Oduro Sarpong claimed ownership of the land and brought bulldozers to clear the land.
According to Mr Dodovi, Dr Oduro Sarpong claimed to have bought the land from a former deputy Ashanti regional Minister, Osei Assibey Antwi for Ghc400, ten years ago.
The Kumasi mayor, accompanied by his bodyguards, intervened to stop the claimant from clearing the land, culminating in a clash between one of the bodyguards and a young man who accompanied Dr Sarpong’s nephew.
The young man was subsequently arrested by the Panthers Unit while the said nephew, who left his unregistered Toyota Tundra at the scene, went for the documents to prove the claim.
