The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Mr Kobby Acheampong, has asked Dr Kwabena Adjei not to respond to the Police Service’s request that he substantiates his calls for the purging of the judiciary.Dr Kwabena Adjei, the national chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, in mid-August directed the Chief Justice to purge the judiciary of corrupt judges and biases or the party would do it, explaining that there are so many ways of killing a cat. His comments generated heated debates with some arguing that his comments amounted to high treason.Amid the controversy, the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), lodged a formal complaint with the Nima Police, who called Dr Kwabena Adjei to discuss the issue.However, the NDC national chairman has questioned the basis for his invitation by the Police, saying he made those statements on behalf of the party and that the statements were not personal.On Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Monday, Kobby Acheampong, commenting on the issue, noted that the Police is embarking on a moot exercise, advising Dr Kwabena Adjei not to waste his time cooperating with the Police because their call for him to substantiate his comments is unnecessary and unmerited.Contributing to the discussion, the Member of Parliament for Bimbila, Dominic Nitiwul, said the Police have every reason to invite the NDC national chairman to demonstrate the ways he would use to purge the judiciary because he has left the public to speculate.The NPP MP recalled that it was due to those same comments that a Judge recused himself from sitting on the murder trial of the overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, claiming that he feared for his life.Mr Nitiwul said if he were Dr Kwabena Adjei, he would desist from commenting on the issue because he [Kwabena Adjei] is not the leader of the NDC and that he should not be making statements that contradict that of President Mills, who is the leader of the party.He cautioned the government not to joke with the lives of the people since it is now clear the NDC is intimidating judges to adjudicate matters in a particular manner, a trend he said is very dangerous for this country.By: Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
