The curtain on the new Primera Division season will be raised this Saturday, after the threat of a potential strike was averted.
Some thirteen La Liga teams had mooted the idea of boycotting the opening fixtures of the season to protest against inequalities in the distribution of television revenues.
However, the president of the Spain's Liga ruling body (LFP), Jose Luis Astiazaran, confirmed that the new campaign will start on Saturday, as planned.
"The games this weekend will be held on schedule," said Astiazaran in a brief statement made to the media on Tuesday.
The strike action was avoided after a meeting on Tuesday between rebel clubs, LFP representatives and others such as Spain's Secretary of State for Sport, Miguel Cardinal.
Champions Real Madrid begin their new term by taking on Valencia on Sunday, while Barcelona play Real Sociedad on the same evening.
