President Akufo-Addo, ahead of the Easter festivities, has urged road users to embrace positive road safety protocols to keep their families safe.

According to the President, road accidents are increasingly becoming an unwanted part of the Easter festivities and has thus called on road users to maintain a positive road safety culture to reduce the phenomenon to the barest minimum.

“Year in year out, accidents on our roads have been tragically a part of the celebration of Easter. This year, we must do everything possible to reduce this occurrence to the barest minimum. The Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Police Service has reiterated its determination to enforce the road traffic laws and regulations, and it is my hope that this Easter will be celebrated without any road accidents," he emphasized.

President Akufo-Addo, who was cautioning the nation in a pre-Easter address also announced several Covid-19 safety protocols and bans to help mitigate the spread of the virus while the country continues its vaccination rollout programme.

He further urged road users to aid the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Police Service in ensuring road safety.

“Let us help them in this endeavour by minimizing our speed, taking due precaution for other road users, driving without the influence of alcohol and weaing our seatbelts. Like we have done with our Covid-19 protocols, let us also embrace a positive road safety culture that keeps our families and nation safe,” he added.

Meanwhile, bans have been placed on Easter picnics, parties, theatrical performances, cinemas, pubs, and nightclubs.
