Lawyer and community development advocate, Lom Nuku Ahlijah, has donated 217 pieces of cleanup equipment to the Keta Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region.
The donated items, which included 35 cutlasses, 35 shovels, 35 spades, 35 pairs of boots, 35 headpans, 35 pairs of gloves, and seven wheelbarrows, were to support cleanup operations across the municipality in a bid to clear debris areas affected by a recent flood.
This is line with President Mahama's declaration of July 10th and 11th, 2026 as National General Cleaning Days in flood-affected regions.
Presenting the items, Mr Ahlijah said the recent floods serve as a wake-up call for the government, local authorities, and citizens to focus on environmental sanitation and disaster prevention to protect the country against flood devastation.

He also noted that while the Municipal Assembly has the responsibility of coordinating sanitation activities, meaningful progress can only be achieved when individuals, community groups, businesses and civil society work alongside local authorities.
"This donation is intended to support the Keta Municipal Assembly and its seven Zonal Councils as they lead this important exercise. It is a modest contribution towards ensuring that those on the frontlines of the cleanup effort have the tools they need to serve our communities effectively," he said.
According to him, the National General Cleaning Days should not be viewed as a one-off event but as the beginning of a renewed culture of environmental responsibility.
He urged residents of the municipality to actively participate in the cleanup exercise and continue maintaining clean surroundings, stressing that preventing floods begins with keeping drains free of waste and promoting responsible waste disposal.
Mr Ahlijah also commended President Mahama for introducing the initiative and praised the Keta Municipal Assembly for coordinating the municipality's response.

Friday's exercise will be led by security agencies, waste management companies, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, while Saturday has been designated for mass community participation across the country.
Mr Ahlijah expressed hope that the donation would complement the Assembly's efforts and inspire more individuals, businesses, and organisations to support local initiatives aimed at building cleaner, healthier, and more resilient communities.
The donation forms part of Mr Ahlijah's broader commitment to community development in the Keta Municipality, which encourages collaboration between citizens, traditional authorities, local government, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable development.
Receiving the items, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive, Wisdom Bondieu Seade, appreciated the donation and acknowledged that the tools provided would enhance the scheduled clean-up exercise.
He appealed to residents to commit to the exercise site to clear the municipality of pathogens and prevent disease outbreaks, especially after the recent flooding.
“I want to say, on behalf of the chiefs and people of Keta, that we really appreciate this gesture. The items have arrived at the right time, and we will put them to good use,” he said.
