President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, to serve as the special guest of Honour at the official opening of the 2026 judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights on Monday.

The ceremony will also mark the launch of the court’s 20th anniversary celebrations, highlighting two decades of advancing human and peoples’ rights across the African continent.

The presidency says this marks the first time a sitting President of Ghana has been invited to address the AU Court, a milestone that underscores the country’s commitment to promoting human rights and justice in Africa.

During his visit, President Mahama is expected to deliver a keynote address reflecting on the progress of the court, Ghana’s contributions to continental human rights initiatives, and the ongoing challenges in upholding justice across Africa.
