Communications Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah says the president is delivering on his promise to transform the structure of the Ghanaian economy.
He said barely a year after he lamented to Parliament about how Ghana spent over $1.5billion on importing foodstuff into Ghana, President John Mahama has taken bold steps to reverse the trend.
At a Government For The People forum held in Tamale Tuesday, the minister chronicled a number of interventions including the establishment of the Komenda Sugar factory, which he said were in line to transform Ghana's economy.
He said if the Komenda Sugar Factory comes on stream, Ghana will no longer spend money to import sugar from other countries.
He also stated that the government is considering setting up another sugar factory at Savelugu to which will produce and supply sugar to the northern parts of the country.
Dr Omane Boamah said the government has also begun a ¢20million broiler project to improve poultry production in the country.
He said one million cedis has so far been invested into the project.
The Minister also cited government's contributions towards boosting the pharmaceutical industry in the country.
"In less than one year after he made the promise in Parliament, Mahama is walking the talk. He has not allowed the transient challenges to affect the economy and that is how come we are seeing the progress we are seeing," he stated.
