President John Mahama has sent a rallying cry to the Black Stars of Ghana to end the 33 year trophy drought as they face the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire in an epic AFCON final on Sunday.
The president urged all to hope, pray and support the Stars to do the country proud.
Ghana face Ivory Coast, Sunday, in a repeat of the Senegal 1992 final in which the Elephants won through a marathon penalty kick.
It was the last time the Elephants won a continental trophy despite a golden generation of stars led by Kolo and Yahya Toure, Didier Drogba, Zokora etc.
The Elephants are eager to end the trophy drought and have an equally determined Ghana team to crack on Sunday.
The Black Stars are chasing their fifth continental trophy, the first in 33 years.
Despite starting slow, the Stars have peaked just about the appropriate time for the epic final.
Speaking at the graduation of senior officer police cadets in Accra today, the president said it is time for the Stars to bring the trophy home.
"All of us had our hearts gladdened by a sterling performance of the Ghana Black Stars in Equatorial Guinea in their match against the host nation.
"We continue to pray and hope that the Black Stars will do us proud and for the fifth time in history bring the African Cup home," he said.
