Olympique Marseille have released Andre Ayew to join the Ghana national team for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
The 23-year-old picked up a hamstring injury on Wednesday and is expected to be out for an initial five days.
The French club had made a request to the Ghana FA to hold on to the midfielder as they begin treatment of the injury.
Their request was however rejected by the GFA who insisted on having the player in the Black Stars camp by Saturday’s deadline.
As a result, Marseille on Friday gave permission to Ayew to join the rest of his national teammates in Abu Dhabi.
It is however unclear at this point whether the son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele has set off for the Black Stars camp in the UAE.
Ayew is expected to continue with his treatment while in the UAE and would hopefully join full scale training if his recovery keeps to schedule.
The news comes as a massive boost to Ghana who have already lost Yahaya Mohammed to injury days towards the start of the Nations Cup in South Africa.
