The Medical and Dental Council is launching official investigations into the activities of Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh of the Obengfo Hospital at Weija in Accra.Joy FM’s investigations have revealed that Dr. Obeng-Andoh, the owner of the hospital, has over the years been conducting plastic surgeries on unsuspecting patients even though he has not been licensed to practice as a surgeon. Some of his patients have ended up with life threatening complications. The Medical and Dental Council’s investigation follows a formal complaint filed by the family of 47-year-old Rex Fafa Dagoe, who died at the hospital during a plastic surgery in March this year. The registrar of the council, Dr. Elli Atikpui told Joy News the complaint has to be scrutinized to ascertain whether or not it has merit.“…I will have a discussion with the chairman of council...to see whether the complaint has merit at all. If it does, then it’s going to go to the Penal Cases Committee. They will look through the documents and see whether the practitioner has a case to answer.“Once that is established, the case is referred to the Disciplinary Committee of Council.”He added that the practitioner will be written to “with a copy of the complaint to submit a written explanation on the complaint that we have received.”
