The Upper East Security Council has taken delivery of thirteen metal detectors for retrieving illegal weapons.
The detectors were provided by National Security to facilitate the retrieval of illegal guns and ammunition.
so far security officers have retrieved four guns and some ammunition.
Regional Minister Mark Wayongo tells Joy News the security agencies will rely on information from residents to maximize the use of the detectors.
Earlier plans by officials to retrieve weapons by giving cash in exchange for amunition turned in was not implemented.
National Security is yet to give the go-ahead for the new program that will give cash rewards to residents who voluntarily return illegal weapons.
