Gender activists have sharply criticized President JEA Mills for not appointing women in his latest ministerial reshuffle announced Wednesday.
The list of 19 appointees among whom are six new faces had no female.
Gender advocacy group ABANTU for Development says the gender imbalance is an embarrassing trend.
The Director of the group, Dr Rose Mensah Kutin told Joy News “The reshuffle doesn’t give a good signal about women because what it does is to give a signal that women are not part of the Ghanaian society and also that when it comes to public decision-making women are not to be considered. These kinds of actions actually confuse people, especially women and it becomes an embarrassment.”
She said government must honour it international commitments to guarantee increased female representation in political decision making.
Gender advocacy groups, she must work harder if the current situation is to change for the better.
