Mining company turns to GOIL for uninterrupted fuel supply

Owere Mines at Konongo on Friday signed a bilateral fuel and lubricants management agreement with Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) to ensure uninterrupted oil supply to the mines. “Due to the sensitivity of earth moving equipment in the mining sector, GOIL is to provide an efficient fuel managing system, automatic tank gauging system and specialized computerized system to check the fuel flow, quality and quantity of fuel on consistent basis,” Mr Alex Josiah Adzew, Technical and Special Products Manager, stated at the signing ceremony in Accra. “GOIL will also install special quality testing device to consistently check the quality of product at site,” he said. The agreement was signed by Mr Yaw Agyemang-Duah, GOIL Managing Director and Mr Roger Bannister, Project Manager of Owere Mines. Mr Adzew said GOIL had the operational resources and managerial capacity to operate efficiently in sensitive zones such as in the aviation, mines and other industrial areas for the supply of all forms of fuel and lubricants. Mr Agyemang-Duah assured communities and customers who patronize GOIL products that issues of health, safety and environment would continue to be the prime focus of the company, given the nature of products the company dealt in. In view of this, some key personnel were provided with training and information on disciplined approach to conduct operations at the company’s facilities and network in a manner that would safeguard people and property, including those in communities where the company operates. He said GOIL would continue to provide efficient and high quality operations in the oil marketing industry to propel the image of Ghana as an emerging oil producing country. Mr Bannister said Owere Mines started operating in 2009 in the Konongo vicinity, which historically was one of the richest sources of gold mined in Ghana. He said: “In choosing a supplier, we needed a company with the resources, commitment, expertise and logistics to meet our stringent requirements. GOIL stands out.” The two parties also stressed the need to engage the local communities in ways which would benefit all parties and more importantly to introduce them to ideas and programmes that will have positive impact on their livelihoods.
