Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, on Friday stated that government would welcome constructive criticism and abhor insults towards the promotion of democracy. This, he said, was due to the fact that every human being is fallible. Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo was speaking at a durbar, organised by the chiefs and people of Nkwabeng and its environs in the Nkoranza South District. The durbar preceeded a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 5.8 kilometre raod between Odomase-Nkwabeng-Brahoho-Akuma and Abuentem. Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo cautioned that politicians could not win power by insulting their political opponents. He called for a halt to the culture of insults that was creeping into the country’s political landscape since it could create bitterness, division and instability. The Minister noted that democracy was about the tolerance of each other’s views to ensure unity and cohesion in society. The Regional Minister reiterated that government would not renege on its mandate and responsibility to provide social amenities to improve the lives of the people and added that the commitment had manifested through the numerous development projects being undertaken all over the country. Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo appealed to the leaders and people of the area to co-operate with the contractors to ensure a successful execution of the project. Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza South, said the commencement of the project had nullified the belief by the people that it was impossible to rehabilitate that stretch of road due to its “serious” state of disrepair. He said the people in the localities had now had their hearts’ desire fulfilled because “the road described by them as ‘undoable’ or impossible is now doable possible”. Mr. Agyekum said that 86 development projects had been undertaken in the district within the two-and-half-year rule of the National Democratic Congress Government, and called on the electorate to elect leaders who would work to improve their lives. The DCE advised parents to invest in the education of their children to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge for national development. The surface dressing project being funded under the Ghana Cocoa Board-funded Roads Improvement Projects in the Region is estimated to cost GHS2.1 million. Two Accra-based road construction firms, Jalexberg Limited and Otuboat Limited would be expected to execute the contract within one year. Source: GNA
