Minority members of Parliament have accused President John Mahama and his government of organising the National Economic Dialogue as an attempt to "whitewash" Ghanaians about the true state of the nation’s economy.
The allegations were made by former Finance Minister, Mohammed Amin Adam during a press conference to announce "The True State of the Nation."
Speaking to the press, Mr. Amin Adam criticised the event, which was held on Monday, 3rd March, as a mere political exercise designed to mask the real state of the economy inherited by the NDC administration.
"We the Mighty Minority are ready to do our work – to provide truthful information to the Ghanaian people on the affairs of our nation, especially, as the government is holding a National Economic Dialogue, which is intended to whitewash the unfounded and baseless claims of the mismanagement of our economy under the erstwhile NPP administration."
"They are even scaring the people of Ghana further by putting out unaudited outstanding claims on government, and we will expose the mischief in these claims," he added.
The former Minister said "We believe these unholy moves by the NDC are intended to buy time to cover for its incompetence in managing the economy and to establish the basis for increasing taxes
and introducing new taxes in the 2025 Budget Statement, even as they are promising to scrap E-Levy, COVID-Levy, and others."
The press conference followed the President's first State of the Nation address delivered last week, in which he stated that he inherited a poor economy from the previous NPP administration. He also mentioned that the country's public debt had soared higher than expected.
According to the minority, their press conference reflects the true state of the economy, contrary to what the President presented in his address.
