The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a warning indicating its readiness to ask its agents at various registration centres to defend themselves through whatever means necessary if unfair attacks on them persist.

This comes after the party complained of abuses meted to some of its agents monitoring the voters’ registration exercise across the country by the military.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, the NDC's Director of Elections produced evidence to affirm the complaints since the registration exercise started.

This, according to Elvis Afriyie Ankrah showed that the men of the Ghana Police are unconcerned about the welfare of their agents. .

"We are very law abiding people so we cautioned our agents to corporate with the security agencies. But it seems the military and the police do not care about us.

"We are, therefore, sending a note of caution that if these things continue, we will tell them they shouldn't go and die. Nobody should get himself killed because of registration. If anybody wants to attack you take every measure to protect yourself," he said.

Mr Afriyie Ankrah also mentioned that the matters have been reported to the various police stations pending investigations.

He urged the police to be fair and neutral in their mandate to arrest perpetrators of the act.

"So police, the ball is in your court, whether you will sit down for people to be beaten and hurt it is up to you," he stated.

Responding to the criticisms, the Public Affairs Director, Shiella Buckman said so long as the incidents are still under investigation, perpetrators will be brought to book.

She further cautioned the NDC against instigating any action that will result in chaos.

"Under no circumstance, should anyone take the law into their own hands. It is the duty of every citizen in the country to report allegations of crimes and brutalities," she stated.
