The Senior Technical Advisor at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) Grace Bediako has confirmed work is ongoing to make the 40-year National Development Plan legally binding on successive governments.
The 10 million cedi framework for the country’s socio-economic development agenda is to be implemented from 2018.
The process would begin next week with regional and stakeholder consultations.
Speaking exclusively to Joy News, Dr. Bediako explained plans are far advanced to compel successive governments to implement the plan.
“The white paper and our (NDPC) response to it and the current progress of things will lead us to a legislation that will bring all the governments under that kind of guidance that we have to obey.”
Dr. Bediako however added the power of enforcement lies more with the citizenry.
“Supposing that I come on and then I know that I’m supposed to do it and I don’t, before I even get a second term the citizens have the power to determine my fate.
“We collectively are better able to hold our politicians accountable than the legal system, it takes quite long time to settle issues but we can settle it at the ballot box”.
