The flag-bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has conceded defeat in the 2008 elections.
With less than half of the total votes collated, Dr Nduom has realised that his prospects of annexing the presidency are perilously dim.
At a hurriedly organised press briefing, he said although the CPP promised to build a just society by fighting corruption vigorously, the people of Ghana had spoken.
“And they have spoken loud and clear,” he said.
He acknowledged the ability of the NPP and the NDC to galvanise both human and material resources to win the confidence of Ghanaians.
He however, cautioned the two parties to “treat the trust of our people with respect so that we avoid violence in the elections”.
He congratulated the other smaller parties for working hard to give Ghanaians an alternative.
The failed presidential hopeful also commended the Electoral Commission (EC) for maintaining its credibility.
Dr. Nduom gave a hint of his desire to stay in politics.
“There is a lot ahead of me in politics,” he said reminding those who wish to contest for the flag-bearership of the party that he is still in the fray.
He promised whoever will win the elections of positive opposition adding the CPP would stand by Ghanaians to ensure that things are done in the interest of the nation.
